Sherbrooke Stands Up Against Poverty 2008 |
Today during morning meeting on the 17/10/08, Sherbrooke students and staff demonstrated their pledge in contributing to making poverty history by "standing up". Year 11 students showed two informative videos on what the campaign was seeking to achieve. Australia has pledged its commitment to the Millenium Developmental Goals. The Eight Millenium Developmental Goals are: 1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger 2. Achieve universal primary education 3. Promote gender equality and empower women 4. Reduce child mortality 5. Improve maternal health 6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases 7. Ensure environmental sustainability 8. Develop a global partnership for development |

Yellingbo Revegetation Programme |
A few weeks ago a number of Environmental Science students travelled to Yellingbo to plant about 200 plants. The revegetation will help the endangered Yellow Helmeted Honeyeater survive into the future. The students have been studying this unique little bird which is Victoria's bird emblem. |

Students Hospitality Experience |
Two students from Year 10 recently cooked and served a meal to a business group in Ashburton. Sherbrooke currently is giving students from Grade 2 through to 10 some great hospitality experience through restaurant evenings run at the school. |

Switch and Save |
Last term year 11 Environmental Science students mounted a school/community campaign to reduce our energy use by doing small things around the home that also saved money. They put together a Switch and Save pamphlet, a power point presentation and then took these to the school community and then Sassafras community. This campaign has been entered in the "Switch and Save" competition run by Origin Energy. |
